Implicit structures, processes, and powers always exist

  • Very often in tech companies there’s a push against having any kind of process. The problem is process exists. Much like not standing up for social justice is itself a decision, not a non-decision, because no non-decision can be made, there can be no absence of process. There is only implicit or explicit process. The former tends to benefit those in power already.
  • Often people argue that structure will slow things down or create hierarchy, but that is conflating process and structure, as well as confusing centralization and control.
